CY Consultant Loraine Hughes reviews our April meeting...

In to May and we’re looking forward to the third of our monthly meetings on the remote video platform that is zoom! There’s nothing like necessity ensuring that the entire team now know how to navigate through the standard process of connecting, getting their video and sound working efficiently, and ensuring that we work through zoom! etiquette like we’ve been doing it for years. We’ve even progressed to discussing security settings, green screen backgrounds, enhanced lighting and recording. There have been no hiccups or mishaps – at least none that I have been witness to or that anyone else will confess to.

The April monthly meeting was well-attended by CY members, who have this opportunity to discuss and share ideas with like-minded fellow freelancers and consultants, albeit in diverse industries. A key topic of discussion was the popular weekly Wednesday 15-minute ‘Coffee Break’ catch-up and the fact that it offered an important supportive and friendly space to catch-up on any topic of interest, especially in the current situation. It was inevitable we spoke of COVID-19 and its direct and indirect impact on our small businesses – most of us were not covered by the Treasury’s response.

We agreed that video conference calling technology offers us an additional route to connecting and networking with potential members who may otherwise be unable to travel to a set venue each month.

Gareth James from Clock Work Eye gave us a whistle-stop overview on Videomarketing. There were a lot of take-aways, but also a lot of immediate actions from avid team members. Watch out for our first CY video blog, showcasing all that was learned and more, in the near future.

Following on from the last meeting, we will, no doubt, be discussing and disecting the new ‘bounce back loans’ and how they will work for sole traders vs. Limited company directors. We’re also looking forward to having a number of visitors and first-time attendees at our May monthly meeting this week. Antony Eckersley, of TSE Solutions will discuss Health & Safety requirement in small business. Antony is a fully qualified Chartered Health & Safety Consultant, with over 20 years experience.

If you are a Yorkshire-based freelancer or independent consultant do get in touch. You’re welcome to attend our monthly meetings, held from 09:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the third Wednesday of the month or join us for the current casual ‘Coffee Break’ catch-up every Wednesday.
